Theoversity Compromised by Tekels Park Wildlife Issue

Tekels Park

Sanctuary for Wildlife

Camberley, Surrey, England, GU15 – 2LF

to be Sold to

a Developer

Tekels Park is now being sold to a property development company by the Theosophical Society in England, who are showing an apparent indifference to the fate of the wildlife, that is in conflict with the  long tradition of compassion for animals within the Theosophical Movement.

Theoversity Compromised by

Tekels Park Wildlife Issue

The Theoversity was established by the Theosophical Society in England (Adyar) in 2006 to promote Theosophical teachings. Compassion for animals was certainly therefore part of the Theoversity’s agenda. Developments at Tekels Park have compromised the Theoversity’s position.

Since it’s establishment in 2006, the Theoversity has been in the vanguard of the promotion of Theosophical Teachings and taking Theosophy forward. Residential and day courses have been held regularly at Tekels Park and have been well supported.

There has been talk of an agreement by which the Theosophical Society in England will be able to use Tekels Park after it has been sold to the property development company. However, many in the Theosophical Society believe this to be an unrealistic prospect and some have suggested that the developer has only allowed the Theosophical Society negotiators to run with this idea as a way of delaying purchase in order to force the price down.

The question of what will happen to the Tekels Park wildlife, after the developer takes over, has been a contentious issue right form the start of negotiations in late 2009 and the Theosophical Society in England’s leadership has repeatedly failed to make a clear statement on the issue.

Jumping ahead of any possible agreement to use Tekels Park after the sale, the Theoversity has distanced itself from matters at Tekels Park by moving its operations for 2010 to hired venues in Southampton, Glastonbury and Chorley.

If, as feared, the decision to sell Tekels Park to a development company leads to the destruction of the wildlife by development then this would be totally incompatible with the promotion of Theosophical teachings and would haunt the Theosophical Movement for many years to come. The management of the Theoversity must be acutely aware of this sensitive situation and are probably the hoping that they can disassociate themselves from Tekels Park.

Other groups within the Theosophical Society in England are also now attempting to distance themselves from the sale of Tekels Park.

If an event such as this were to happen

at Tekels Park then it would haunt the

Theosophical Movement for years to come

The Theosophical Society in England’s

leadership have made no clear statement

on the matter.

Who Has Decided

To Dump Tekels Park ?

The whole deal is shrouded in so much secrecy that even the majority of the Theosophical Society’s actual card carrying members don’t appear to know what is happening but here are some contact points.

The Theosophical Society administers the Tekels Park Estate through a limited company

Members of the Theosophical Society in England are at a loss to know why the leadership ignored professional advice in 2009 not to sell Tekels Park. Selling at such a bad time puts the Theosophical Society in England’s leadership in a very weak negotiating position. Nobody outside the leadership has seen the detailed financial information on which the decision to sell Tekels Park is based.
